Learnit Training
Assertiveness course: standing up for yourself
  • Become aware of your qualities and pitfalls, and what effect this has on others
  • Increase the understanding of where your limits lie
  • Learn how to profile yourself decisively!
  • Use conscious communication techniques to make your interests known and achieve your goals
  • Practical training

Assertiveness is standing up for your own interests, without walking over the interests of another. It does not mean lacking self-confidence or being shy, but has everything to do with how you act in relation to others. It is therefore a communication tool to achieve your goals, in which mutual respect is central. In the training we pay attention to how to (dare to) express your opinion clearly and how you present yourself.

Yes, I want to know more

"The training gave me good tools to be more assertive in life. For example, I have learned methods to say 'no' in a friendly way. And I did so without feeling guilty afterwards, because the course also deals with underlying causes such as irrational and obstructive thoughts. I also learned a lot about the possible roles you can assume in communication and what you can achieve as a result! The course really opened my eyes: I am now communicating much more consciously and feel much more 'in control' and relaxed. In addition, the course was given in an interesting and interactive way, whereby the needs of the course members were also properly addressed. Highly recommended!" - Rating: 9.0

Assertiveness course: standing up for yourself

Assertiveness is standing up for your own interests, without walking over the interests of another. If you are able to respond assertively, you increase your chances of achieving your goals. With the right approach, you can build pleasant relationships with others, in which mutual respect is central.

In the training Assertiveness: standing up for yourself you learn to act more self-assured, whereby mutual respect is central. Assertiveness is a communication tool to achieve your goals, because it has everything to do with how you act in relation to others. That is why we work on (daring to) expressing your opinion clearly and on the way you present yourself.

Topics

During the training the following topics, among others, will be discussed:

  • What is assertiveness and what is it not? The difference between assertiveness, subassertiveness and aggressiveness.

  • The role of communication and frames of reference: Sending, receiving and interpreting. It is not what you do, but how the other interprets it that determines the other person's behaviour.

  • Interpreting non-verbal and verbal behaviour: You always communicate without words!

  • Saying no and setting boundaries: How do you set (non) verbal boundaries? How do you express your opinion and explain your expectations?

  • Giving and receiving feedback: Assertiveness means that you dare to name your feelings and that they are allowed to be there. We work with the feedback rules.

  • Communicating with purpose: How do you influence someone without manipulating them?

  • Dealing with limiting thoughts and emotions: What stands in the way of you standing up for your own interests?

Results

  • You are aware of your own qualities and pitfalls and what effect this has on others;
  • You have increased the understanding of where your limits lie;
  • You can use appropriate communication techniques to express your interests and achieve your goals and
  • You know how to present yourself in an effective way.

Target group

This training is ideally suited for participants who want to appear more assertive. Do you recognise yourself in one or more of the points below?

  • I want to struggle to achieve my goals (at the right times);
  • I want to stand up for my own interests better;
  • I want to take the initiative, be clear in what I want and be able to present myself well;
  • I want to draw attention in conversations and express my opinion clearly.

Of course, this list is not complete: everyone is different. What do you want to pay attention to within the theme of assertiveness?

Working method

  • Customisation is our focus: through a telephone intake interview, the trainer makes an inventory of your personal learning goals. On this basis, the definitive programme of the training course is determined.
  • We believe a safe training atmosphere is important, as you should feel comfortable experimenting with new knowledge and skills.
  • We strongly believe in doing and experiencing, rather than talking about the content of trainings, which is why all our trainings are active in nature.
  • In order to guarantee the quality of the training, we apply a maximum group size of eight participants, so that we can guarantee the learning effect and efficiency.

The training is provided in Dutch as standard. The trainer has a good command of the English language. Use can be made of course material in English. With a minimum of three participants, the training can also be provided entirely in English.
