Commercial and creative writing course

Everyone writes for a living, including you. And if you have some experience in this, you will probably succeed in getting your message across efficiently and clearly to the reader. But sometimes more is asked of your texts. It matters more how you present it: a bit more fun, shorter, more surprising. The commercial and creative writing training of Learnit can give you ideas, stimulate you to play with language and make you enjoy your writing tasks more.

The Commercial and Creative Writing training course is aimed at writers who want their texts to go beyond informing. They want to tempt their readers: to read the text, but also to take action. For example, to accept the offer, to register or to buy something. To do this, we first map out to whom you are writing, for what purpose and about what. We need a little marketing for that. Once you have a good picture, you learn strategies for coming up with ideas. You learn how to formulate in an appealing and convincing way. And finally, you write and polish until you are satisfied.

Below you will find an overview of topics that are dealt with in the Commercial and Creative Writing training. This programme can be supplemented with subjects of the participants that come up during the intake.

  • Who is my target group and what do I want the readers within my target group to do?
  • What do I need to convince the reader of? What tools do I have for this?
  • How and where can I best communicate about this? What media do I use?
  • How do I structure the text? What comes first? What do I conclude with?
  • Digital or paper, does it make a difference?
  • Storytelling, blogging ... Is that something for me, my organisation, my target group?
  • How do I attract attention?
  • How do I get new ideas?
  • How do I formulate in a pleasant and easy-to-read way?

Teaching methodology

This training is pre-eminently practice-oriented. Naturally, we alternate listening, sharing, trying out and reflecting (also among ourselves). During the training you start from your own company, products and (commercial) writing tasks. Thanks to the trainer's and the other participants' input, you will soon be looking at things from a different angle. Practical and playful assignments force you to put this different view into your own words. And to turn it around, stretch it, shorten it ...

Target group

The Commercial and Creative Writing training is suitable for everyone who writes commercial texts for their work that have to convince. For example: advertisements, vacancies, offers, blogs and proposals. Seducing and surprising play an important role.

The training focuses mainly on the Dutch language area. But commercial writing is more international than you think. If your work requires you to write in English, German or French, most of these tips will do the job.

If you mainly write short informative documents such as letters and e-mails, the training Customer-oriented writing may be more suitable for you. For longer persuasive texts with a larger role for arguing than for persuading, you should take the training course Writing Clear Texts. For those who mainly have questions about error-free writing, we warmly recommend the training in Dutch spelling and grammar. Feel free to contact Learnit for advice!

Prior knowledge

For the Commercial and Creative Writing course, you must be able to read and write Dutch at MBO level.

The topics mentioned above will certainly receive attention because they contribute directly to more convincing, more surprising and more readable texts. The exact content of the programme also depends on the intakes that the trainer conducts shortly before the training dates, either by e-mail or telephone. So you can certainly suggest points of attention.

Do you have colleagues in your team or department who have the same questions? Or do you want a training course that is even more tailored to your work practice and/or that of your colleagues? Then contact us to discuss the possibilities tailored to your needs.
