Customer-oriented writing course

Everyone writes for their work. Whether it is an e-mail to confirm an agreement, or a report or policy plan: you write to be read and understood. This does not happen by itself. Often it takes more time and attention than you actually have time for. Learnit's writing training can help you to write professional texts faster and with more confidence.

To do this, during the training we first map out to whom you are writing and what message you want to convey. This determines not only how you address your reader and what you should or should not say, but also the structure and order of your text. We work from large to small: you learn to divide your text into paragraphs that logically fit together, and then to formulate clear and concise sentences. Finally, we pay attention to word choice and correct writing.


Below you will find an overview of topics that are dealt with in the training Customer-Oriented Writing. This programme can be supplemented with subjects of the participants that come up during the intake.

  • What exactly do I have to tell the reader, and why?
  • What does the reader want to know?
  • What do I want the reader to do?
  • When do I opt for a letter and when does e-mail work?
  • How do I handle e-mail properly? (Privacy, replying with/without a message, cc'ing, etc.)
  • How do I best structure my text? An e-mail message, a letter, a memo, a report?
  • How do I make my text scannable for the impatient reader?
  • Do I choose a formal, neutral or informal style? For whom and in what situations?
  • How do I formulate pleasant and easy-to-read sentences?

Teaching methodology

This training is pre-eminently practice-oriented. It goes without saying that we alternate listening, sharing, trying out and reflecting (also amongst ourselves). To ensure that you will indeed write better texts at your workplace more quickly and thus take away what you need from the training, the training is also interactive. You can ask questions, you learn from the other participants and you receive many tips on how to find answers to formulation and spelling questions in practice.

Target group

The customer-oriented writing course is suitable for all people who regularly write short texts such as e-mails and letters for their work.

The training focuses mainly on the Dutch language area. But customer-oriented writing is more international than you think. If your work requires you to write in English, German or French, most of these tips will do the job.

If you are currently writing mainly larger documents, the training course Writing Clear Texts might be better for you. For those who mainly have questions about writing without mistakes, we warmly recommend the training Dutch spelling and grammar. Feel free to contact Learnit for advice!

The exact content of the programme depends on the intakes that the trainer conducts shortly before the training dates, either by e-mail or telephone. Prior knowledge

For the Customer-Oriented Writing training, you must have a good knowledge of the written and spoken Dutch language at MBO level.


The training is provided in Dutch as standard. The trainer has a good command of the English language. Use can be made of course material in English. With a minimum of three participants, the training can also be provided entirely in English.


Prices mentioned are per person, including course material. Lunch is included in the on-site training.

The training lasts 4 sessions of 3 hours, spread over 4 weeks.
