Managing a relational database is easier than you think! Give your career a boost and learn how to make your own reports with MySQL.

Yes, I want to know more

MySQL basic course

Are you working in a PHP environment with a relational database? Do you want to be able to edit the data in it or even change the entire structure? Do you find it annoying to be constantly dependent on others to make the right queries for your reports? The MySQL course gives you insight into the structure and operation of a relational database. This helps you to understand how you can get access to the data it contains. You learn how to make powerful MySQL queries that allow you to quickly and efficiently retrieve data from the most complex datasets and, if necessary, edit it.

MySQL is the most widely used programme in the world for managing relational databases. It is open source and therefore accessible to everyone. Because MySQL focuses on speed and convenience, it is particularly suitable for creating dynamic websites and simple web applications.

In today's business world, everything revolves around information. Organisations collect more and more data, but often hardly know what they can do with it. After following the MySQL course, you will know. You can manage the database and/or set up valuable reports, statistics or dashboards. This gives you an enormous advantage on the labour market.

Topics

During the training the following topics, among others, will be discussed:

  • Introduction to relational database design.
This covers the basics: tables, columns and fields, primary and foreign keys, normalisation etc...
  • Introduction to MySQL
About the origins and most important characteristics of MySQL
  • Installing MySQL
How to download, install and connect MySQL to your database.
  • Setting up a database
How do you convert a functional data model into a MySQL database?
  • Saving or editing data in your database
About applying simple INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE statements
  • Making simple selections
    About applying simple SELECT queries
  • Creating a UNION query
How can you reduce the result of multiple SELECT statements to a single result set?
  • Stored routines and triggers
A storedroutine is a simple piece of code that you can store in your database to perform simple functions automatically. You will learn when to use stored routines, how to create them and how to deal with triggers.
  • Optimisation
How can you make your queries faster, more efficient and more powerful?

Results

You understand how a relational database works. You can independently create and set up a MySQL database. You know the most important statements and how to use them. You understand the principles of query optimisation and can apply them. You know what stored routines are and how to implement them.

Target group

This training is ideally suited for administrators who will manage or monitor a MySQL database and for anyone who builds or programs websites in a PHP environment.

Prior knowledge

Some prior knowledge of data modelling is desirable, but not necessary
