Course Communicative Skills

It sometimes happens (or very often!) that we do not feel understood, the other does not understand, are not aligned or that we come across differently than we intended. Miscommunication has arisen, which entails the necessary frustrations. Especially if you have to work with someone, for example, or if it is important that you profile yourself well. There are all kinds of skills and techniques that can help you to draw the communication back "right". It is important to realize that communicating is much more than a skill alone. It has everything to do with who you are and how you feel. This way you can experience stress or not so well in your skin by circumstances. This affects the way you express yourself and how you happen to others.

In the course Communicative Skills you will discover your own style of communication and look for your standards, qualities and pitfalls. Which factors contribute to an effective form of communication for you? What will you have to pay attention to and what makes you powerful? In this training you will learn to express yourself effectively, giving you more control over the way you come across. Attention will be paid to how we communicate with each other and you will find out how our frame of reference is an important source of miscommunication. You learn to express yourself the way you are, without hurting the other person.

During the training, the following topics are covered:

  • How do we communicate with each other?:

Understanding how the communication process works

  • Verbal, non-verbal and Paralinguale communication:

What do you say literally, what do you do with your body and how does your voice sound? And what effect does this have on your way of communicating?

  • Discovering your personal communication style: investigating core qualities and pitfalls:

Behind every trap a quality is concealed and vice versa lies in every quality a trap. Understanding your own qualities and pitfalls helps you communicate more effectively.

  • Primary and secondary reaction:

Do you react quickly and out of emotion or do you take the time to react thoughtfully and delicatelyly?

  • Adopt an Active listening attitude:

How do you show your attention to the other? That you really listen to someone's message?

  • What causes miscommunication?:

Awareness of noise factors and, in particular, our own reference framework as a source of miscommunication.

  • Give and receive feedback:

Explain what effect other people's behavior has on you without judging or blaming the other, so that the other person is open to your message.

  • Gaining insight into yourself and others:

You learn to know yourself (yet) better and understand where this comes from you and you learn that this applies to everyone else as well.

  • You are aware of your personal way of communicating and know your qualities and concerns;
  • You have reinforced your verbal, non-verbal and/or paralinguale communication;
  • You know the basic skills give and receive feedback and have practiced and
  • You know you better keep standing in difficult situations in communication.

The training is ideal for anyone who wants to get started with sharpening and optimizing their own way of communicating. Do you recognize yourself in one or more of the following points?

  • You know that there is work at the store within your own style of communication (this you have noticed or heard from your environment and you can find it here)
  • You react from your first emotion and become angry, annoyed or impatient
  • You come across differently than you mean and would like to understand how this comes
  • You would like to have more insight into your personal way of communicating
  • You are tempted to react sometimes too strongly (for example, direct or bot) or you are just too cautious
  • You would like to be more firm or more convincing in your way of communicating
  • You would like to learn to give or receive feedback in an effective way

This list is Natúúrlijk not complete. Everyone is different. What do you want to pay attention to within your communicative skills?

  • Customised work is central to us: by means of an intake interview the trainer will enumerate your personal learning goals. On this basis, the final programme of the training is determined.
  • We find a safe training atmosphere important because you have to feel comfortable when experimenting with new knowledge and skills.
  • We strongly believe in doing and experiencing, rather than telling about the content of training, which makes all our trainings active in nature.
  • In order to guarantee the quality of the training, we apply a maximum group size of eight participants for the training, so that we can guarantee the learning effect and efficiency.

Olga Tichomirova, Unica Installatiegroep B.V. - Communication skills

"I thought it was valuable training, with a good build-up of depth. First of all, you become aware of the course of the communication process and what role which communication channel plays in it. By experiencing this yourself, you immediately understand the theory. The theory and exercises always went a step further, so that you can build on what you learned before. At the end of the training you will be aware of how you come across to others and you will be able to act better during conversations if it stagnates or you are unable to grasp the essence. You also have insight into the role that emotions play and how the process of processing feedback proceeds. Of course, it is important to practise this in practice, so that in time you are no longer "consciously competent", but "unconsciously competent"! - Rating: 9.0

S. Faber - Communication skills

"This training is highly recommended, especially because it makes it clear how you come across to other people. Which you often don't think about and have no idea about." - Assessment: 8.2

R. van Beusekom, University of Amsterdam (UvA) - Communication skills
