You apply conversation techniques in order to communicate as effectively as possible with your interlocutor. It seems a paradox, but by connecting well with the other you are better able to steer the conversation in the direction you want. In our two-day training you will learn to consciously determine your strategy and conversation techniques to achieve your goals, making conversations more enjoyable, more effective and more efficient.

Would you like to improve your general conversation technique so that you become more proficient in conducting and directing conversations? Whereas our Communication Skills training is much more about your own way of communicating and expressing yourself, conversation techniques are about using your way of communicating in order to connect with your interlocutor. It seems like a paradox, but by connecting well with the other you are better able to steer the conversation in the direction you want.

As a thread we take the iceberg theory: below and above the water surface. If we want to show effective behaviour above water, it is important to know how that behavior is achieved under water (whether or not). What is going on under water, so that we do not manage to show some behaviour above water?

In The training conversation techniques you learn to become aware of your own qualities and pitfalls and what effect this has on the course of a conversation. You will learn to understand the purpose of a conversation, so you can consciously determine your strategy and conversation techniques to achieve this goal. By sharpening your skills, your conversations will be more pleasant, effective and efficient.


During the training, the following topics are covered:

  • Fresher about how we communicate:

    How does the communication process work and what pitfalls are lurking?

  • Verbal, non-verbal and Paralinguale communication:

    What do you say literally, what do you do with your body, how does your voice sound and what effect does this have on a conversation?

  • The Iceberg theory:

    Concrete observable behaviour (visible to everyone) lies above the water surface. How this behavior comes about and what motives and motivations play a role under the water surface and are not immediately perceptible

  • Sending a (purposeful) conversation: goal, technique and strategy:

    Within each conversation, you aim for a goal, such as bringing bad news, giving feedback or giving your opinion. To achieve this goal, you set out a strategy and put in your techniques. What strategy and techniques will best help you achieve this goal?

  • Listening and conversation skills:

    For example: Aandachtgevende attitude, summarizing, by questions, questioning techniques, feeling reflective

  • From message to process: interaction during a call:

    Understanding communication on content and relational level

  • Connecting to your Interlocutor:

    Attention to the world of experience, the frame of reference, the other

  • Coping with emotions and resistors:

    Recognizing resistance to yourself and the other and how to deal with it


  • You are aware of your own qualities and pitfalls and what effect this has on the course of a conversation;
  • You can use the right techniques to achieve your goal;
  • You are able to get and keep the direction in the conversation (back) and you know how to send a call;
  • You know how to recognize your own resistance and the resistance of others and how you can cope with it and
  • You listen carefully to your interlocutor and have an eye for the frame of reference, so that misunderstandings can be avoided.


This training is ideally suited if you have a lot of conversations and would like to sharpen your skills to make these conversations more enjoyable, effective and efficient. Do you recognize yourself in one or more of the following points?

  • You want to create the space in a conversation to listen to each other's expectations or interests

  • Customised work is central to us: by means of an intake interview the trainer will enumerate your personal learning goals. On this basis, the final programme of the training is determined.
  • We find a safe training atmosphere important because you have to feel comfortable when experimenting with new knowledge and skills.
  • We strongly believe in doing and experiencing, rather than telling about the content of training, which makes all our trainings active in nature.
  • In order to guarantee the quality of the training, we apply a maximum group size of eight participants for the training, so that we can guarantee the learning effect and efficiency.


The training is provided by default in Dutch. The trainer controls the English language. English course material can be used. When registering at least 3 participants, the training can also be provided entirely in English.


Mentioned prices are per person, including course material. Lunch is included in the training on location.
