Read Annual accounts: Clear insight into the financial performance

Are you not involved in financial management on a daily basis, but is it important for you to be able to read the annual accounts of your company or of other companies? And to be able to adequately assess the financial performance of a company? Do you lack sufficient financial knowledge? In the Annual Accounts Reading course you will learn in an understandable way how to read and interpret annual accounts, which parts are part of an annual account and what the annual figures say about the financial performance of a company.


In The one day course you will learn to understand and analyse the annual figures from a financial annual report. Financial jargon and difficult financial definitions are clarified and you learn to interpret the main financial ratios: What do these annual figures mean and what actions or improvement points can you connect to them?

Furthermore, you will learn how a good financial analysis of the annual accounts helps you in your decision making and to improve the organization. The most applied accounting and tax tricks are also discussed; Ways to ' Polish ' the annual figures in a specific direction. What tricks are this and how do you prick through?


The following topics are discussed In the course annual accounts :

  • What is an annual account and what forms are there?
  • Why and for whom is the financial statements important?
  • What legal provisions should the financial statements meet?
  • What are the components of the annual accounts (balance sheet, income statement, explanatory statement, foundations) and how do you read them?
  • Financial ratios: what are there and what do they say about the financial position of the company?
  • Commercial versus fiscal annual figures: what is the difference?
  • Accounting and fiscal tricks: why are they used and how do you see them (e.g. window dressing and profit management)?
  • What is the auditor's role?
  • How does the financial statements help to make strategic decisions?


The course is intended for anyone who does not deal with financial issues on a daily basis, but has to make crucial decisions based on the annual figures. For example, executive or management members (e.g. marketing, HR, Sales and IT), corporate lawyers and lawyers, shareholders and investors.


Annual reports of various forms of business are discussed during the course annual accounts . You will learn to recognize and understand the key financial ratios. By using short exercises and examples from your daily practice, you will be announced step by step with the parts of the financial statements. Bring your own annual accounts? That is possible. During the course there is also ample opportunity to ask questions.


In The course we try to connect as much as possible to the daily practice of the participants. In advance an intake interview takes place in which we enumerate your background and learning goals. The final training programme is determined on the basis of the intake interviews and the composition of the course group. Depending on the knowledge, practical experience and learning objectives of the participants, the content per training can therefore differ slightly.


After completing the course, read:

  • Do you know the difference between a single and a consolidated financial statements
  • Do you know which parts of the financial statements exist
  • You can read and indicate the balance sheet, income statement and explanatory
  • Do you know what ratios are in the annual report and what they mean
  • Can you recognize and see doctored year figures
  • Do you know what the annual figures say about a company's financial performance
  • On the basis of the annual figures, you can make the right strategic decisions to improve your organisation.

No specific prior knowledge is required for the course.


After completing the course, you will receive a Learnit participation certificate.


The training is provided by default in Dutch. The trainer controls the English language. English course material can be used. When registering at least 3 participants, the training can also be provided entirely in English.
